John's Bible Studies and Sermons

Bible Study Lessons

Many of these Bible study lessons were originally prepared for Sunday School, using the Explore the Bible series. Others are the result of home Bible studies I have with men as I encourage them to be come Disciples of Christ.

The Relationship Factor

Christianity is not a religion at all! It is a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. This study is taken from John 14:4, Abide in Me, and I in you.

A Life of Thankfulness

This lesson has proven to be very encouraging for inmates--especially those who remember the old hymn, Just As I Am. This study is taken from Philippians 4:4-9.

A Dangerous Misconception

This powerful lesson focuses on hypocritical Christianity. God has used this sermon and study to challenge many inmates and He may use it to challenge you, as well. Caution: If your Christianity is based on dead works, you are in serious trouble!

The Roman Road to Salvation

This sermon was first outlined and preached by a pastor in a tiny church in Ohio. With his permission, I have published this as a bookmark and now as a sermon outline on this web site. This is an excellent soul-winning tool.

Lessons on Prayer

The Model Prayer, known as the "Lord's Prayer" was given by our Lord to help us pray correctly. This study examines each facet of the jewel He gave to us.

The Humility of Christ

This sermon on John 13:1-7 illustrates something that most of us have never known before. The full expression of the Gospel Message throughout eternity past and future is illustrated in this "living parable." Jesus, ministering to the Apostles illustrates what He has done for us. The sermon is presented in outline form, allowing the preacher to comment as he goes along.

Trusting in God

Psalm 34 is an excellent study in prayer. When compared with the Model Prayer, the instruction becomes even more applicable to the Christian praying saint.

Saved For Good Works

This sermon shows that the purpose of good works on the part of a Christian is not for salvation, but serve as evidence of salvation! It is based on Ephesians 2:8-10, focusing on verse 10. I first preached this sermon at the Jack Baptist Church on November 5, 2006.

Zacchaeus — Sought by God

The wonderful story of Jesus' encounter with Zacchaeus is only told in the Gospel of Luke. The insight into the sovereign grace of our Lord is beautifully illustrated in this story.
